16th October – English T-Shirt Day

El pasado viernes celebramos el primer English T-shirt day en el colegio Helios, con el objetivo de, a lo largo del año, ir recogiendo diferentes ejemplos del uso del inglés en nuestra vida diaria. El alumnado de 6º de primaria y 1º y 2º de ESO participó con gran entusiasmo y, pese al frío, mostraron varios ejemplos de diferentes expresiones inglesas y símbolos típicos de la cultura de habla inglesa.

Last Friday we celebrated the first English T-shirt day in Helios, which forms part of our aim throughout the year to gather different examples of English usage from our daily life. The students from primary 6 and secondary 1 and 2 enthusiastically defied the cold by providing many examples of different English expressions and symbols typical of English-speaking culture.

 

Travelling Suitcases

Este curso hemos puesto en marcha LAS MALETAS VIAJERAS, uno de los programas del Plan de Lectura del colegio.

Son cuatro maletas con libros, música y vídeos que el Departamento de Inglés pone en circulación, de familia en familia, para compartir lecturas con los hijos, para disfrutar pasando tiempo juntos, para conocer distintos tipos de libros y canciones en inglés. Hemos intentado incluir material para todos los miembros de la familia. Estas maletas viajan de casa en casa una vez a la semana y contienen información sobre la actividad y un cuaderno en el que cada familia anota las opiniones e impresiones que le sugieren los materiales que se incluyen.

Los objetivos que perseguimos con esta actividad son:

• Contribuir a la toma de conciencia del importante papel que tiene la familia en el fomento de la lectura
• Conocer diversos tipos de libros (informativos, de ficción, etc.)
• Conocer la diversidad cultural del mundo en el que vivimos para desarrollar y transmitir actitudes de respeto, tolerancia y aprecio por las diferencias.
• Favorecer el desarrollo del hábito lector en el alumnado del centro.
• Acercar a las familias textos, canciones y películas en inglés.
• Dar una oportunidad a nuestros alumnos de practicar su inglés con sus familias.

Esperamos que todos los miembros de la familia (padres y madres, abuelos/as, hermanos/as mayores o menores) disfrutéis con vuestro hijo/a leyendo, escuchando música o viendo los videos. También esperamos que sea un primer paso hacia la inclusión del inglés a la hora de elegir un libro o un CD para disfrutar en familia.

                             DEPARTAMENTO DE INGLÉS

This year we have started our Travelling Suitcases, one of the Projects of our School Reading Plan.

There are four suitcases with books, music and videos that the English Department will send from one family to another, so that you can share books with your children, enjoy spending time together and get to know different kind of books and songs in English.

We have tried to include material for everybody in the family. The suitcases will travel from one house to another once a week and they contain information about the activity and a notebook where each family can write their thoughts and impressions.

We want to achieve the following objectives:

• Raise awareness of the important role that the family has in encouraging reading.
• Introduce different kinds of books (factual, fiction, etc)
• Display the cultural diversity of the world we live in and communicate and cultivate a sense of respect, tolerance and appreciation of our differences.
• Get the school pupils into the habit of reading.
• Bring English texts, songs and films into the home.
• Give our pupils the chance to practise their English with their families.

We hope that the child and the whole family (parents, grandparents, older or younger siblings) can enjoy reading, listening to music or watching the DVDs altogether. We also hope it is a first step towards considering English when choosing a book or a CD to enjoy.

Welcome Flat Stanley

Dear families,

         We have started our Flat Stanley project!

         Flat Stanley has come to visit us and he wants to see all our school. We are going to show him around and we are going to take pictures too. Later, we will write sentences describing the photos and we will send it all  to Rainford CE Primary School in Rainford, England; so Flat Stanley can tell our English friends all the things he learnt about Helios school.

         Our friends will also send us photos about their school. We are very excited! We have coloured a Flat Stanley to take home and show you, so you can meet him too. 

               Queridas familias:

         ¡Ya hemos empezado nuestro proyecto “Flat Stanley”!

         Flat Stanley ha venido a visitarnos y quiere ver todo nuestro colegio. Vamos a enseñárselo y también vamos a hacer fotos. Luego, escribiremos frases describiendo las fotos y lo enviaremos todo al colegio de primaria Rainford CE, en Rainford, Inglaterra, para que Flat Stanley pueda contarles a nuestros amigos ingleses todo lo que ha aprendido sobre el colegio Helios.       Nuestros amigos también nos enviarán fotos de su Flat Stanley en su colegio. ¡Estamos muy ilusionados! Hemos coloreado un Flat Stanley para llevar a casa y así también lo podéis conocer vosotros.

Halloween at Helios School

El viernes 31, los profesores del departamento de inglés, organizaron distintas actividades para celebrar Halloween.

Welcome to Trinity

El lunes 6 de octubre comenzó el Curso de Inglés Trinity en el colegio.
Los alumnos de 11 grupos se reunieron por primera vez el lunes, el resto, adscritos en 10 grupos más, lo hicieron el martes.
Todos habían sido convocados en las bibliotecas del colegio, decoradas con banderas y carteles. Además, sobre varias mesas, esperaban para su degustación, productos ingleses: aperitivos salados, dulces, caramelos, zumos, …
Al llegar los alumnos, hubo una presentación por parte de los profesores y después les tocó el turno a los alumnos: si querían degustar los productos ingleses, había que contar algo en inglés. ¡No opusieron resistencia!
